Georges at The Cove 858 454 4244, 1250 Prospect St, La Jolla, CA 92037
Locanda Verde – 377 Greenwich, Tribeca
Hip new trattoria featuring the urban Italian food of Andrew Carmellini. Soulful food in a jam-packed high energy environment, with a wonderful esoteric Italian wine list.
Anthos – 36 W. 52nd Street
Modern greek food from Michael Psilakis. The dining room is small but elegant, with food that is vaguely Greek with a modern American sense and an international wine list.
Marea – 240 Central Park South
Elegant, stylish dining room. Very upscale Italian seafood, wonderfully executed. Interesting wine service with very attentive and well-informed sommeliers.
Maialino – 2 Lexington Avenue in Gramercy Park Hotel
Danny Meyer’s new roman trattoria. Small (70 seats) neighborhood restaurant with checkered tablecloths and casual service. The food is authentic and very good, but not yet excellent.
Corton – 239 W. Broadway, Tribeca
Impeccable French restaurant, newly opened by Drew Nieporent in the old Montrachet space. Spare, understated décor but very warm and elegant. We all had the eight course menu which was intelligent and creative (Trey said it was reminiscent of Pierre Gagnaire in Paris).
Café Boulud – 20 E. 76th Street
San Diego chef Gavin Kaysen formerly of the Rancho Bernardo Inn presides over this Upper East Side landmark. Outstanding food, service, wine, etc., but it's very old world and upper crust feeling.
Scarpetta – 355 W 14th Street
Scott Conant, formerly of L’Impero, has been awarded three stars by the New York Times for his newest Italian restaurant in the Meatpacking District. Lively dining scene, but the service was a bit curt.
