Jon Bautista Named Eater Young Guns Semi-Finalist for 2014

Jon Bautista, the new Chef de Cuisine in California Modern, was recently named #4 on Eater National's list of 50 Eater Young Guns Semi-Finalists for 2014.

Eater pours over thousands of nominations each year and compiles their list of semi-finalists with the objective to "identify the most promising up-and-coming talent in the restaurant industry, whether they're working as chefs or line cooks, wine and cocktail pros, restaurateurs, or maître d's." Eater refers to its list of finalists as "50 of the brightest and most promising up-and-coming under-30 talent in the United States' restaurant industry."

Jon debuted in the California Modern kitchen late last year, joining George's at the Cove from Kitchen 1540 at L'Auberge Del Mar, and his culinary and leadership skills have already proven to be a great addition to the team.

"It's an honor being mentioned as an Eater Young Gun amongst so many talented, passionate and successful people in the hospitality industry," Jon said in response to the recognition. "My being on this list is a nod to the city of San Diego and the great food our local chefs have been putting out. To be recognized on a national level for something you love to do, day in and day out is an award in itself. I am truly thankful for my family, friends, and chefs that helped me get to where I am now."

Eater National's Young Guns Class of 2014 is set to be announced in late June. To see a full list of Young Guns Semi-Finalists, click here. To learn more about Chef Bautista, check out our recent Q&A interview.
