Recipe: Cream Cheese Coffee Cake

Delicious and moist, coffee cake is the perfect treat to enjoy with your morning coffee or to share with visiting guests. Here, we pair soft cream cheese with vanilla and cinnamon to make a perfect, fluffy and rich cream cheese coffee cake.

Preparation

FOR THE CAKE BATTER

Cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the egg and mix well. Stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract until thoroughly combined. Add the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Mix until all of the dries are incorporated and the batter is lump free. Spread half of the batter evenly into your greased 9x9 square pan. Reserve the other half.

FOR THE FILLING

Mix the cream cheese with the salt, sugar and lemon juice. Add the egg and mix well. Pour the filling directly on top of the cake batter that is spread out in the pan. Now, take the other half of the batter and spoon drop it all over the cream cheese filling you just poured in.

FOR THE TOPPING

Mix all of the ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Spoon drop the topping over any exposed cream cheese filling and on top of the cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Let cool and serve.

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

FOR THE FILLING

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg

FOR THE TOPPING

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 ounces butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinamon
