An Engagement Story

If you're like us, you love a good engagement story. It's the first question you ask when you learn your friend's significant other has proposed, and it's a story married couples continually retell for years after they've walked down the aisle.

We were lucky enough to be able to help a man named Chris Love (ironic, we know!) plan his proposal to his now wife, Melissa. Chris's friend Kevin Sutton, a local photographer, recommended George's at the Cove as the perfect proposal restaurant. He helped coordinate the young couple's reservation on our Ocean Terrace and candidly captured the entire experience on camera.

Here, Chris shares the story of how he and Melissa met, his anticipation for the special day and the details of their over-the-top romantic moment. Have your tissues ready!

My name is Chris Love, and my fiancé's name is Melissa Einbinder. We've been together since September 26, 2013, and we both live in Scottsdale, Arizona. I met Melissa on, she was actually the reason why I signed up. When I saw her picture and read her profile, I immediately created a profile and swiped my credit card. I sent her an email, and within a matter of days we had corresponded multiple times back-and-forth with mutual anticipation of our first date.

I could tell by reading her profile that we had much in common, but from the very first moment we met there was an undeniable attraction both physically and mentally. She was the most beautiful woman I'd ever laid eyes on, and it didn't take long for me to fall madly in love with her.

I've known for quite some time now that I wanted to propose to Melissa, with my original intent set on proposing in Hawaii at the end of September. We had booked the trip a couple of months ago to celebrate our one-year anniversary and visit a very good friend of Melissa's who lives in Maui (she had no idea I had been planning the proposal.)

I initially asked her father's permission to marry his daughter in April, and I made the final payment on the engagement right at the beginning of July. As each day passed, I knew I just couldn't wait any longer. So, I booked an impromptu trip to San Diego and immediately called my good friend, Kevin Sutton, to help me candidly capture the moment. Kevin was more than willing to oblige and started doing research on amazing local spots that would be both equally beautiful and unique at the same time.

Kevin was able to make a reservation for me at George's at the Cove, and from the very beginning of my correspondences with the George's staff, there was nothing but anticipation and excitement for the upcoming proposal.

As you can tell by the pictures, the staff at George's made sure we had the most incredible view of the entire restaurant. Our table was positioned on the cantilevered concrete edge of the patio, overlooking the gorgeous views of La Jolla Cove and the Pacific ocean. With the sun beginning to set and the ocean breeze blowing, it was the most picturesque scene imaginable.

I kissed Melissa on the cheek and told her I had to go wash my hands before dinner. As I ran back to the car to grab the engagement ring, my nerves finally started to kick in. My heart was racing and my hands were a bit shaky. Kevin met me at the base of the stairs, gave me a big hug and asked if I was nervous. I hadn't been nervous up until that point. This was going to happen!

I walked up to the table, Kevin staying approximately ten feet behind me out of eyesight. Again, I kissed Melissa on the cheek as I laid down the Michael Kors box in front of her. With curiosity in her eyes, she asked me what this was for, and all I could say was, "Because I love you" (Melissa said my hands were really shaky at this point.)

She opened up the box to find a Michael Kors clutch with a pendant inside. She thanked me profusely and I prompted her to take the pendant out and try it on. As she did, she saw the engagement ring on the end of the pendant chain. At this point—as you can tell by the pictures—emotions flowed freely, which gave me enough time to get down on one knee. I told Melissa I loved her with all my heart and I asked her to spend the rest of her life with me.

As the entire Ocean Terrace erupted with cheers and applause, I was able to slide the engagement ring on her finger. In between her tears of joy, she said, "Of course I will." I told her to say hi to Kevin and Melissa looked over her shoulder with a huge smile of disbelief. She had no idea he was there capturing the moment and I couldn't be any happier with how the surprise turned out. The magic didn't stop there, Kevin again went above and beyond and took our engagement photos the next morning in downtown San Diego.

Over the past week and a half, my fiancé, her parents and I have began to plan the wedding. We will exchange vows at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix Arizona, with the "Madhouse of Love" reception to follow on February 14, 2015, Valentine's Day.

In summation, the entire staff at George's on the Cove went out of their way to make my proposal, our dinner, and the entire evening a night my fiancé and I will never forget.

Thank you!!!
Christopher Love
