California Modern Named In Michelin Guide

2019 Michelin Guide

California Modern has been named an L’Assiette MICHELIN or a MICHELIN Plate in the 2019 MICHELIN Guide California.

The MICHELIN Guide is regarded worldwide as the most respected authority when it comes to restaurant reviews. Having been in existence for more than a century, the guide ranks restaurants across the planet on five core criteria:

  1. The quality of the ingredients
  2. The mastery with which the food is prepared
  3. The personality of the chef in his cuisine
  4. Value for money
  5. Consistency between visits

The 2019 MICHELIN Guide California includes 657 MICHELIN-recommended restaurants, 90 of which have MICHELIN stars. In San Diego specifically, 34 restaurants were included with only William Bradley’s Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar having been awarded a single star. According to the National Restaurant Association and California Restaurant Association, there were 7,368 eating and drinking locations in San Diego county in 2018.

"We are very happy with our Plate designation for the first year of MICHELIN coming to San Diego and having only one star given to our city. We’ve been in business 35 years and have remained relevant because we are continually evolving and improving what we do. This gives us even more motivation and we’re excited about MICHELIN'S commitment to California and San Diego," said Trey Foshee, Executive Chef/Partner at George's at the Cove.

Inspectors will start their famously anonymous inspection process for the 2020 MICHELIN Guide California later this year.
